The Red Sea lies between Africa and the Arab Peninsula. It is 2,250 km long and has a maximum width of 355 km. It is up to 2,130 metres deep. The Red Sea connects to the Mediterranean via the Suez Canal. In the south it connects through the Bab el Mandeb strait to the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.
