Explanation

Machu Picchu is a well-kept Inka town from the 1500s. It is situated on a mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley at an altitude of 2,430 metres. It is around 80 km from the city of Cuczo in southern Peru. Most people know Machu Picchu as the seat of the Inka emperor Pachacuti (1438-1472), and it was inhabited until the Spanish conquest in 1532. Machu Picchu is on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
