How many Star Wars films are there altogether?

Explanation

The adventures of the 'Star Wars' universe started in 1977 with the first film in the series, called 'A New Hope', where the planet Alderaan is destroyed by the Death Star. We are introduced to the characters Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Chewbacca. The first trilogy became a major commercial success, and in 1999, a new trilogy was commenced with the story of what happened before the first three films. George Lucas, the director, based the role Han Solo on his friend and colleague Francis Ford Coppola.
